My name, Ayla, means halo of light around the moon. Holding light and dark in tandem is where I find hope and possibility.

As a romantic realist, my writing isn’t just about escape, it’s about nuance, complexity, and things co-existing.

This piece was born for the last gathering of @thespokenword.collective. It’s been a privilege hosting these gatherings for the last 5 years, and as I close this cohort I deep feel gratitude for the community built through it.
